96.7 the River Surprises Cold Spring “Teacher of the Week” in Classroom
96.7 the River and Mix 94.9 made a trip to Rocori High School in Cold Spring Tuesday to surprise our first-ever Teacher of the Week.
Jon Czech's high school math class was in the middle of a quiz when we knocked on his door and entered the classroom. As Cold Spring School Resource and Patrol Officer Ruben Zayas entered the room with us, students' heads looked up from their desks, and Czech's face froze. He thought he was in trouble.
But any real concern was quickly alleviated as we entered with smiles on our faces and hands full -- a basket full of bakery items, gift certificates and a plaque with Czech's name on it. Officer Zayas stepped forward to explain what was going on.
I was listening to the radio and heard they had a contest to nominate somebody for Teacher of the Week, and...I put in a little synopsis about why Jon Czech should be Teacher of the Week."
Officer Zayas went on to read his submission:
Mr.Czech takes teaching students to a new level, As a math teacher he will take the time to instruct students over and over again. Mr. Czech not only teaches students about Math but also teaches students about the reality of life. I have been in his classroom and sometimes wonder why he does teach just the one subject when he is well versed in other subjects as well. When he teaches, student always have his full attention and in my experience students always seem to reach out to him because of his personality and because he is really easy to talk to.
Overall this makes him a great teacher."
Mr. Czech's smile was big as his class clapped for him, and we awarded him with his gifts: a basket of baked goods from Great Harvest Bread, a $30 gift certificate from Concrete Image Salon, a certificate for brunch at Coyote Moon Grill, an award plaque from All Star Trophy & Awards, and t-shirts from both Mix 94.9 and 96.7 the River.
Congrats our first-ever Teacher of the Week Mr. Czech and thanks for the work you do at Rocori High School!
