If you're a snowbird then you might want to change your plans this year. Minnesota is in for a very mild winter, even more than last year.

Winter in Minnesota is a major part of the economy and it seems our cold months are getting milder every year. Without snow and cold, our ski hills and lakeside resorts suffer terribly. The Old Farmer's Almanac is saying we're in for another winter dry spell.

From what they're predicting, we're going to see little spurts of "normal" winter every other month starting late November through March. Some cold spells on and off, and just a couple of big winter storms.

Here's some specifics...

It'll start getting cold in late November, early and late December, early January, and early February.

Winter storms will give a dumping of snow mid- to late December and early to mid-February, otherwise light snowfalls and below average precipitation all winter.

They're also predicting that we'll have a colder than average April & May, which is similar to what we saw this past year and made it feel like winter wouldn't end!

Our summer will be hotter than normal, with the hottest days coming in late June, late July and mid-August. Unlike we're seeing right now, late August and September will be warmer and drier than normal.

Odd enough, the Old Farmer's Almanac has usually been pretty accurate over the past few years! I've learned to trust what they predict for each upcoming year. As a Minnesotan who's not a huge fan of winter, I like hearing this news. Unfortunately those who count on winter to make a living are not so happy about it.
