Drew’s List Of Essential Concerts in 2018

With the citizens of the United States of America divided in a seemingly hopeless state of political and moral turmoil, there is only one thing that always seems to bring human beings of all walks of life together (if only for a brief moment.) And that, my friends, is the power of music. Live music to be exact. It might seem like 2018 is going to be a dark time for us, but it is going to be an ASTOUNDING year for concerts in, and around Minnesota. Here is my list of essential concerts you can’t afford to miss this year.

- Foo Fighters

Dave Grohl is the reigning kind of rock-n-roll, and The Foos are one of the best live bands out there. These guys have the best stadium anthems of our generation. They’re playing the Xcel Energy Center on October 18th.

- Mastodon

You may not be as familiar with these guys as you might be with other artists on this list, but they’re definitely worth checking out. Mastodon is basically the modern day Pink Floyd. They’re playing at The Myth on June 14th.

- The Eagles

Let’s just be honest. Everyone loves The Eagles. They need no explanation. They’re Playing Target Field on June 30th.

- Journey/Def Leppard/Cheap Trick

Speaking of Target Field, all three of these timeless bands will be playing there on July 27th. They all helped define 80s music, not to mention, Rick Nielson is just a cool dude.

- Rick Springfield

I honestly think that everybody has a little love for Springfield in them. You can deny it all you want, but it’s basically impossible not to sing along with his tunes. He’s playing at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake on February 25th.

And last but not least…

- Tool

Yeah, yeah. I know you’re sick of hearing me talk about this band, but I can’t help it. They’re the greatest band of all time, period, end of story. Get over it. They’re playing at Northern Invasion in Somerset, Wisconsin (just south of the Minnesota state boarder) with a handful of other awesome bands: Alice In Chains, Avenged Sevenfold, and A Perfect Circle - Maynard’s other project when he’s not working with Tool - among several other groups. I had the privilege of seeing Tool at the Xcel Energy Center last June, and it was possibly the greatest experience of my young life. NOBODY puts on a live show like Tool.

There you have it. That’s my list of essential concerts for 2018. It might be hard to attend them all, but you should definitely check out as many as you can!
