Oh yes, Thanksgiving. The time of year when you have every excuse to gorge yourself beyond all imagination. It’s the time of the year that we all pack on weight before New Years comes around and we make it our resolution to lose all of the weight that we just gained. It’s tradition.

But just how many calories does the average American actually consume on Turkey Day? The Calorie Control Council says that the average American will consume a whopping 3,000 calories each Thanksgiving with the main course alone, and closer to 4,500 calories after we factor in dessert and drinks.

That is absolutely insane! After dessert and drinks are added in our caloric intake is more than double what it is supposed to be on a daily basis. Personally, this statistic will probably scare me away from some of the extra food this year. I’ll probably just stick to the salad bar.
