This year, there have been so many people falling through the ice, we are on track to have record numbers.

That is a statistic that no one wants.  Very dangerous conditions have been contributing to this number.  So, stay away from the ice unless you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is going to be safe.  But, in the case that you do fall through the ice, there are some steps that you need to know about and follow so that you can get yourself out and to safety.

Remember the 1-10-1 rule.  What is that?  You have 1 minute to get your breathing under control and not to panic. You have 10 minutes to get yourself out of the ice, and you have 1 hour of consciousness.

Mostly you need to try not to panic.  That is the biggest thing.  And also make sure you are pulling yourself out near the place that you fell in.  The ice held you right before that.  So work your way over to that space.  Follow the link for step by step instructions to survive falling through the ice.

Above all- stay safe and stay off the ice if you are at all unsure.
