When it comes to legendary horror stories, there are a few that you have to mention. Some of them being The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde, Count Dracula, and basically anything by Edgar Allan Poe.
Another story that belongs on this list of famous stories is Frankenstein. This wretched creation has been the focus of many jokes and spinoffs in pop culture, but you have to give credit where credit is due.
