Congrats to our Teacher of the Week -- and first ever principal of the week -- Mrs. Autumn Nelson! Mrs. Nelson is in her second year as the principal at St. Mary's School in Melrose.

According to Jody Wehlage who nominated her, Mrs. Nelson has done a lot for her little community and is dearly loved for it:

What makes this educator so awesome?
EVERYTHING!!!!
A little back story…
March 2016, our church was burned. The basement of the church is where the school children had lunch… so we were left without a way to feed the school children. The current principal had already announced his retirement at the end of the 2016 school year. Our small school was in desperate need of more than just a principal. We truly needed help in so many incredible ways.
Mrs. Autumn Nelson, who was a teacher and media specialist at our school, took on the challenge. And what a challenge it was. At this small catholic school, the principal does more than just administrative duties. The job description pretty much encompasses – well everything! During the 1st year of being principal – she had way more to deal with than simply just trying to run the school.
I honestly do not know everything she has been involved with to keep this school going. But to list a few… she has helped St. Mary’s keep current in technology and reading programs. Has maintained the safety of our kids, helped them succeed in more than just school and encouraged these children to be the best version of themselves.
She truly goes above and beyond what this community could have expected. Autumn, and the entire St. Mary’s staff, love these children whole heartedly! This community is so extremely grateful for each and every staff member, but Autumn truly exemplifies the true meaning of an amazingly awesome extraordinary educator! We are a community truly blessed to have her at our school!

We surprised Mrs. Nelson at the school with some goodies from Concrete Image Hair SalonCoyote Moon GrilleGreat Harvest Bread Company and an award from All-Star Trophy & Awards. Way to go, Autumn, and thanks for all the awesome work you do!
