The bean counters at CarInsuranceComparison.com have taken 2018 data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and ranked all 50 states for driver safety.

After all the numbers had been crunched, they determined that Minnesota drivers are the safest in America for 2018. It's the fourth straight year Minnesotan's came out on top.

According to the report, the worst drivers in the country do their motoring in Alaska.

Here's how Minnesota did in key categories (1=worst, 50=best)

  • Speeding Rank - 36
  • Drunk Driving Rank - 28
  • Careless Driving Rank - 45
  • Fatality Rate - 49
  • Overall Rank - 50

The five states with the worst drivers in 2018:

  1. Alaska
  2. South Carolina
  3. New Mexico
  4. Louisiana
  5. North Carolina
