I've only been cross-country skiing once. And it wasn't pretty. But every year I say "This is the year I'm going to take up cross-country skiing." And every year I fail. So maybe this IS the year.

This event does sound wonderful. And even if you don't ski, you can still take part and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors at night!  Here's the information you need:

January 4th from 6-10 pm, the Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota and the Stearns County Parks Department are again teaming up to offer an evening of cross country skiing, camaraderie, and food at Quarry Park & Nature Preserve for its annual Moonlight Ski event. A park vehicle sticker is not required during this event.

Skiers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. The groomed classic and skate cross-country ski trails at Quarry Park provide easy trails with a few moderate hills.  The trails are scenic and sheltered from the wind. There will be hiking if there isn’t enough snow.

Activities for the evening include cross-country skiing on the 4.2 mile lighted cross country ski trail, a bonfire, door prizes, and a heated indoor gathering area with chili, snacks and hot drinks.

Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center will have a limited number of cross-country skis available at the event. Revolution Cycle and Ski (320.251.2453) and Fitzharris Ski and Sport (320.251.2844) will also have some free skis available to rent for the evening.

These ski shops must be contacted in advance to sign up for the free use of the cross-country skis.

For additional information contact Stearns County Parks at 320.255.6172 or email parkinfo@co.stearns.mn.us.
