I love progressive rock with a passion. Rush, King Crimson, Tool, Porcupine Tree, the list goes on and on. I know it’s a bit of a copout to say that I’m a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I am. Now, there are people who CLAIM to be Pink Floyd fans, who simply aren’t.

Sorry, but just because you bought a t-shirt with the Dark Side of the Moon logo on it when you were 16 and can name 2 of their albums does not make you a fan. On the other end of the spectrum, you have the real die-hards.

People like us realize that there’s something special about Floyd’s music that almost changes you into a different person after having a proper listening experience (which is with the lights of and with your speaker cranked all the way up, and listening to one album from start to finish in its entirety, either by yourself or with one or two close friends. This is music that should be used for personal introspection, not for partying.)

Unfortunately, I never got the chance to see them play live before they broke up, so I take any chance I get to go watch Floyd cover bands perform. A tribute that I’m looking forward to seeing is “Run Like Hell.” It’s the countries premier Pink Floyd tribute show and the band members are actually based out of St. Paul. They’ll be performing at The Le Musique Room in St. Michael on April 14th at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for only $30.
