Last weekend was the Minnesota walleye fishing opener. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON and discussed where the fishing was good and where it wasn't.

Fishing season is officially underway in Minnesota.

The Minnesota walleye fishing opener is Saturday May 14. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says walleyes are done spawning and are looking to feed.

The Governor's Fishing Opener has been a tradition in Minnesota since 1948. Governor Tim Walz will be fishing Saturday May 14th on Cut Foot Sioux Lake near Lake Winnie. The Leech Lake/Lake Winnibigoshish area is hosting this year's event.

It's time to load up the boat and hit the open water for the fishing opener in Minnesota.

The Governors Fishing Opener in Minnesota is Saturday, May 15th.

Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says the Minnesota Walleye fishing opener is one month from today on May 15. Schmitt says the reason for the later than normal fishing opener is the fishing opener always need to be 2 weeks away from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

Because Memorial Day falls on May 31, the latest day it can be, the Minnesota fishing opener will be later than normal. However, Minnesota moms can fish earlier.

With the annual opener officially in full swing, fishermen and women in central Minnesota will have a few more casting spots available to them.

Local bait shops are crawling with anglers gearing up for the 2018 Governor's Fishing opener Saturday.
