One of my all time favorite activities is playing chess. When I was in middle and high school, I was obsessed with it. I would come home every day after school and play online, or try to convince one of my reluctant family members to take me on.

Eventually I joined my school chess team and started playing in tournaments. Within a couple of years I achieved the rank of team captain. It was a satisfying feeling. I took the game fairly seriously, but in hindsight I wish that I had disciplined myself more and found a mentor. A little coaching would’ve gone a long way.

If you or someone you know is a young, up and coming chess player, you should check out the “Spring 2018 Chess Sunday School” classes at the Eisenhower Community Center in Hopkins. There will be 3 more classes available for students who wish to further their chess playing skills on April 22nd, April 29th, and May 6th. You can register to take the class(es) for $49 - $55 now.
