The Minnesota Twins (72-83) avoided the weekend series sweep today by beating the Athletics 5-1 at Oakland Alameda Coliseum.

Twins starter Kyle Gibson pitched a strong game, completing 7 and 1/3 innings giving up just one run on seven hits, with three walks and three strikeouts. Duffey, Moya, and May closed things out in relief.

The game was decided early with the Twins scoring two runs in the second inning, and three more in the fourth. The lone Oakland run came in the second.

Next: The Twins open a three game series against the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night (9/25) at Target Field in Minneapolis at 7:10 PM CT (TV: Fox Sports North, Radio: 1240 WJON.)
