Twins Drop Series Opener 4-2 to Tigers Tuesday Night
The Minnesota Twins (72-84) fell victim to a late Tigers rally, losing to Detroit 4-2 Tuesday night at Target Field.
Joe Mauer led off with a single in the first inning to pass Harmon Killebrew for the most times on base (3,073) in Twins history. Kirby Puckett is third on the list with 2,810. Jorge Polanco would double, sending Mauer across the plate and the Twins had an early 1-0 lead.
1-0 is where things would stand until the Tigers rallied for four runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Twins would answer with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but that's where things would end.
Minnesota starter Stewart Kohl pitched six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits, no walks, with five strikeouts.
