A brand new poll has found that the decade we're most nostalgic about is...the 90s (specifically, the 1990s...makes sense, amirite?). Even more so than the 80s (1980s? 1480s?).

So what are Minnesotans nostalgic for from the Greatest Decade Ever (source: me)?

Minnesota 90s Nostalgia #1A: A Recent World Series Championship Team

That's a LOT of grey hairs in that pic, and that's how long it's been since one of Minnesota's Big Four sports franchises (Vikings, Wild, Timberwolves, Twins) has been in their league championship game/series, let alone winning it.

At least the 1991 World Series was the greatest ever, with the greatest Game Seven pitching performance ever. But that was 33 years ago. The Twins have only made it to the ALCS once since then, and don't get me started on their record-breaking playoff losing streak, nor their ownership.

Minnesota 90s Nostalgia #1B: Baseball Games Never Getting Rained Out

I love outdoor baseball, and watching a game or concert at Target Field when the weather is perfect is...well, perfect. But the Metrodome had its own climate-controlled charm. Whether the weather was 102 degrees in blazing sunlight or 25 degrees and snowing, we knew what to expect indoors while watching our team. We also had Dome Dogs.

People loved making movies in or basing their stories in Minnesota in the 1990s. Grumpy Old Men (Wabasha, MN), Mallrats (Eden Prairie, MN), Drop Dead Gorgeous (Mount Rose, MN), the murder-y part of Fargo (Brainerd, Minneapolis, and Moose Lake, MN), Feeling Minnesota (the Hennepin Avenue Bridge was used as the border crossing into Canada). We ruled.

Minnesota used to be a major test market because of the wide demographics. Stage productions of "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" were tested here before graduating to Broadway. We got more food and drink tests (remember OK Soda? Should've called it OK Pop), too.

Minnesota 90s Nostalgia #4: The Music

Grunge and alternative buried hair metal at the turn of the decade. Nirvana and Seattle get most of the prestige, but Minneapolis also had a robust grunge/alternative scene.

  • Soul Asylum
  • Hüsker Dü
  • The Replacements
  • Trip Shakespeare
  • The Suburbs
  • Semisonic
  • Babes in Toyland

Minnesota 90s Nostalgia #5: My back

I really miss my back, pre-wrecking it.
