Minnesota Sports Scene Enters The Land of OZ
What the heck happened to our professional Minnesota sports teams lately? It's like a huge tornado came through and picked up the houses of the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves and dumped them in a place fans are not used being in.
It feels like we've gone from the black and white of our typical sports world and entered the colorful land of OZ.
Let's start by going back couple of weeks ago, when the Minnesota Twins signed 3rd baseman and power hitter Josh Donaldson to the biggest free-agent contract in team history. A deal that the previous regime NEVER would have done.
Then this past week the Twins also did something rarely seen. They actually traded a top prospect. This team has been know for never trading prospects, even to try to help the hear and now. Even though the latest news is that this trade might fall through, it's still a sign of a different mentality for the organization.
But it didn't stop there. In fact, it got WAY crazier. Enter the Minnesota Timberwolves. They shocked their fans, and really the entire basketball world, by pulling off a trade that not only brought in a top point guard in D'Angelo Russell (a guy they tried to get in the off-season) but they also pulled of the impossible by getting rid of Andrew Wiggins and that huge contract that he never lived up to.
With all the other moves they made, this roster looks completely different from the start of the season with nine new players.
When the Timberwolves brought in Gersson Rosas from the Houston Rockets to be the new team President he said:
“There’s going to be a tangible change, and this market is going to feel it,”
Well, we certainly felt that.
The Timberwolves and Twins said they were going be changes to the mentality and the culture of their teams. So far they have delivered...and I like what I'm seeing.
