They say that good things come in small packages.  This can be true.  But sometimes good things come in large packages too.

The largest state park in Minnesota is St Croix State Park.  It's 34,000 acres!  That's huge!  But on the other hand, we also have the smallest.  The smallest state park in Minnesota is Franz Jevne State Park.  And to be completely honest, I have never been there, nor have I heard of it before this.

WHERE IS IT LOCATED

Franz Jevne State Park is only 118 acres.  That is a major difference in size compared to the largest state park here in Minnesota.  Franz Jevne is located WAY up North on Rainy River almost on the Canadian border.  It's in a town called Birchdale, Minnesota.  And it is aptly named.

HIKING TRAILS

There is two and a half miles of hiking trails at Franz Jevne that will take you through a forest of birch and pine trees.  Very scenic  And accessible throughout the year.  There are snowshoeing opportunities throughout that same trail that will give you a whole different sense from Summer to Winter.

DIVERSE LANDSCAPE

Wherever you want to walk around, whatever the scene you would like to see, and what experience you would like to have, Franz Jevne offers this.  There's the Rainy RIver that runs through the park, there is the forest trail, and there are rocks surrounding it.  Every type of landscape you could want in this area of the country.

There is also a public boat launch, so if you have a boat, there is that option too.

Make a plan for a Fall road trip and take in the fall colors in Northern Minnesota.

Park permits: $35 annual, $26 second vehicle, $12 handicapped, or $7 daily. Camping fees are separate.
