Do you ever just ponder things when you are driving? Things like, "I wonder how long this road is?" If I kept driving on it, would I end up in another state?" or, "I wonder what route is THE LONGEST state route in Minnesota?" I just discovered the answer to that last question.
If you want to store some useless information in the back of your brain for the next round of Trivial Pursuit with your family around the holidays, how about this little nugget?

HELLO MN STATE HWY 1
Minnesota State Highway 1 is the longest state route in Minnesota. It stretches all the way across the northern part of the state, according to TOP USA.
It stretches approximately 346 miles. It was an important corridor connecting the east to the west when it was constructed in 1933. The route had its final unpaved section paved between US 53 and MN 169, being surfaced in 1996.
BE PREPARED
If you want to travel the route, just for nostalgia's sake, you should know that travelers are advised to plan their journey very carefully, with lots of fuel and plenty of supplies. Due to the route's varying landscapes and natural attractions, people really enjoy taking the route, but you need to be prepared.
All that from asking a simple question. You can learn more about the natural attractions that you can visit along the way by visiting the Minnesota Department of Transportation. They also provide detailed maps and offer current road conditions while you're traveling.
