
How Much Will Central Minnesotans Spend On Christmas In 2025?
Try as I might to get the spending under control for my family, the cost of Christmas continues to climb and climb as the years go on.
Total holiday spending in the United States is expected to exceed $1 trillion in 2025, which would be about a 4% increase in spending over 2024's total according to WalletHub. At the same time, credit card debt is soaring throughout the country, with Christmas adding to the financial crunch many families are experiencing this fall.
THE MOST EXPENSIVE CHRISTMAS IN AMERICA
Palo Alto, California residents will spend $4,485 per family on the holidays, while Mountain View, California will spend $4,266- these are the two biggest budgets in the United States.
The first Minnesota city to make the WalletHub list of "Average Holiday Budgets By City" is Plymouth. The Twin Cities suburb ranks 36th in the country at an average of $2,908 spent on the holidays.
“Depending on the city, an American’s holiday budget this year can range anywhere from just over $200 to more than $4,000, taking into account residents’ income, their existing debt obligations and the cost of living," said WalletHub's Chip Lupo.
"Regardless of how well-off you are this season, it’s important to stick to a budget that fits your financial profile so you don’t rack up unsustainable debt and end up in a bad position after the holidays. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the holidays and show you care without spending much money, like hosting potlucks or giving handmade gifts.”
HOW MUCH WILL MINNESOTANS SPEND ON CHRISTMAS IN 2025?
Maple Grove was the next Minnesota city on the list (43rd) at $2,736; Eagan (53rd) at $2,533 and Brooklyn Park (80th) and Rochester (85th) each made the top 100 at just over $2,100.
HOW MUCH WILL ST. CLOUD, MN RESIDENTS SPEND ON CHRISTMAS?
In Central Minnesota, St. Cloud ranked 270th in the nation and is expected to spend $1,338 per family, just ahead of St. Paul (#273) at $1,332.
