I Bought A Salted Nut Roll Today Just In Case
I have childhood memories of Pearson's Salted Nut Rolls always being in the glove box of my dad's car. When I was a child, my parents divorced, and my dad would drive an hour to pick me up every other weekend. My treat on the trip back was sometimes a Pearson's Salted Nut Roll in the car. Sometimes it was a Nut Goodie Bar.
When shopping at Menards with my dad, we'd always grab a Nut Goodie Bar at the checkout. It's funny how these memories come back only when you know you may not see these candy bars anymore.
In case you missed the news earlier this summer, the future of Pearson's Salted Nut Roll is in peril. The owner of the iconic Minnesota candy bar closed the plant on Monday, resulting in approximately 80 layoffs.

The future of Pearson's Salted Nut Roll and the Nut Goodie Bar are in jeopardy, as so far no deal has been made for any other manufacturer to take over the brand. Some local investors have tried to keep the production running in Minnesota but have not had any success.
When I heard today about the closure, I walked down the street to the nearest convenience store to grab one. I spent $2.29 on a candy bar just for the nostalgia, and just in case they go away. I wasn't able to find a Nut Goodie Bar in the store.
We'll see if someone steps up to the plate and can make a deal to keep this iconic candy brand around, even if it means being produced somewhere other than Minnesota.
