
Minnesota-Based Target Announces Elimination Of Jobs, Sizable Layoffs
Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Target Corporation operates over 1,900 stores across all 50 U.S. states. The company also has a global capabilities center in India and sourcing offices around the world.
Despite recent challenges like declining sales, it remains a major player in the industry, known for a mix of groceries, apparel, and home goods. Everyone who has a Target in their city knows exactly what a 'Target run' means, and it usually means getting more than you anticipated.
However, despite its current standing in the retail world, the Target Corporation recently made a major announcement regarding its corporate structure that will have a big impact on its employees, many who whom will be without a job.

Target Corporation Announces Elimination Of Jobs and Mass Layoffs
On Thursday, October 23, multiple sources shared Target's announcement that it would be eliminating 1,800 corporate roles, including 1,000 layoffs, in an effort to return to growth after a tough year. The announcement was in an internal memo from incoming CEO Michael Fiddelke.
Target's main corporate offices are in the Twin Cities, currently employing more than 7,000 staff in downtown Minneapolis alone. It has now ordered all of its staff from headquarters to work from home through next week, and they will inform them of their job status on Tuesday, October 28.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the 1,800 position cuts are comprised of 800 roles that will not be filled and 1,000 layoffs. This represents about 8% of its global headquarters team.

Target's first quarter results from 2025 saw a 3.8% drop in comparable sales, before reporting a 3.2% decline in the second quarter.
