If you are heading out on the water this weekend to test your luck, let me first say may you catch nothing but personal records. While knowing your 'home' lake is almost as important as making sure you've got bait, just know that while you are out on the water, the most dangerous part of the weekend isn't fishing or the boat.

Cold Water Is The Hidden Risk

Most people are keeping an eye on the weather during the early portion of fishing season in Minnesota, and while there are chances of some raindrops tomorrow morning, the real danger lurks under your boat, the water.

Plus, it's Minnesota law to do your part in stopping the spread of aquatic invasive species, so drain your boat when you pull it out, properly dispose of your bait water, and make sure your livewell gets drained too. If you don't, you might catch a ticket from the Minnesota DNR.
