A Popular Minnesota Summer Tradition Is Becoming Too Expensive for Families
Summers in Minnesota usually mean getting away from home and spending time on the lake, at the cabin, or just enjoying the great outdoors. Lately, it's been costing us all more to do just about anything, and this one Minnesota summer tradition is starting to be too expensive for families.
Does Tradition Top Cost?
Many Minnesotans are starting to second-guess those weekly trips up to the cabin. With gas over $4/gallon, heading up to the lake/cabin is costing more each week. Plus if you are pulling a boat, that gas bill just got more expensive.
Many families have made going up to the cabin a weekly habit during the summer months. It's a great escape from your Monday-Friday grind, and it introduces your kids to the outdoors.
According to Fortune: "Americans are responding to higher gasoline prices the only way they realistically can: by changing behavior and trimming budgets. In some cases, they are quietly giving up on the idea that this summer will look anything like the last one, according to a poll released last week by Ipsos, the Washington Post, and ABC News."

That data, which was published May 8th by Fortune, "found 44% of adults say they have cut back on driving, 34% have tweaked their travel or vacation plans, and 42% have cut other household expenses in order to afford their gas."
Are You Cutting Back This Summer?
With the overall cost of goods rising, have you cut back on your summer plans? Are you taking fewer trips up to the cabin due to the price of gas? Are you adjusting your lifestyle to afford those cabin trips?
