Consistently Hot MN Temps In July Means Only One Thing…Sweet Corn

The hot weather has people in two camps right now in Minnesota: those who absolutely hate it, and those who absolutely love it. Whether you hate it or love it, the hot weather means something else to those who treasure summers in the land of 10,000 lakes...sweet corn.

Stoney Brook Farms Sold Out Day 1

Stoney Brook Farms in Foley posted a video of their sweet corn harvest on social media on Wednesday afternoon. The post said corn would be available, but within the first two hours of the video being posted, they had already sold out!

The good news is that they will have some more for customers to buy starting Thursday.

Why Does Sweet Corn Taste 'Different' Than What You Get At The Store

Fun fact: sweet corn is picked at its peak, meaning it's as sweet as it's going to get, but it won't last long. As soon as an ear is harvested, the natural sugars begin converting into starch. Which means when you get corn from a road stand, chances are it's just a few hours old, so sweeter, whereas some of the store corn you get during other times of the year has mostly been sitting for days rather than hours, meaning it's more 'bitter'.

With Sweet Corn's Arrival, It Also Signals County Fair Season Is Wrapping Up

Once we start to see more and more sweet corn being harvested, it can only mean that here in Central Minnesota, we are getting closer and closer to county fair season, as well as the mother of all fairs, the Minnesota State Fair.

Here are a few of the area's county fairs that are still on the way in 2026:

Sherburne County Fair (Elk River): July 16–19

Wright County Fair (Howard Lake): July 22–26

Pine County Fair (Pine City) July 29–Aug 2

Benton County Fair (Sauk Rapids): August 4–9
