The Minnesota Vikings have traded away a 2024 first-round pick to the New York Giants. The move, which surprised some Vikings fans, sends former 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy to New York, adding depth to their roster.

Nine's Time In Minnesota Is Up

J.J. McCarthy was sent to the New York Giants on Monday morning for what appears to be a 5th-round pick in the 2027 draft. Multiple outlets have reported the trade, leaving the Vikings with just two QBs on their main roster: Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.

Fans Had Hoped He Was The Answer At QB

Multiple Vikings fans that I've talked to since the news of the trade broke had hoped when J.J. was drafted that he was going to be the answer at QB, a position that has always seemed to be in flux with the Vikings.

However, that wasn't the case, as McCarthy showed signs of immaturity in the quarterback room, according to some insiders.

A New Team & A Fresh Start?

With McCarthy now a member of the New York Giants, it gives him a fresh start in a new city, with different teammates. It doesn't mean, however, that he will start for the Giants.

Jaxson Dart, the Giants' starting QB, suffered a season-ending leg injury two weeks ago, making backup Jameis Winston the starter and opening up a need for another QB.
