The Powerball jackpot is nearing $1.5 billion, but these Minnesotans already know what it's like to win big playing the lottery!

The Powerball lottery has been around for a long time-- it just celebrated its 30th anniversary a few years ago, in April of 2022-- and has given away a LOT of money. According to the official Powerball website, since its creation in 1992, Powerball has raised $27 billion for "good causes supported by lotteries," the site says.

Minnesota Lottery Players Keep Winning Big in 2025

The Powerball lottery is currently played here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes along with 43 other states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. But not all states have had the same number of winners. Due to their large populations, it makes sense that states like California and New York have had a decent share of Powerball winners.

But when it comes to winning the Powerball, don't sleep on the Land of 10,000 Lakes. In fact, the Minnesota Lottery said it was just back on September 1st that a lucky Minnesotan who bought a Powerball ticket at the Casey's General Store in Stacy won $150,000!

Plus, another lucky Minnesotan who bought a Powerball ticket at a Speedway location in Blaine for that same drawing won $50,000! And, on August 27, 2025, yet another lucky Minnesotan who purchased a Powerball ticket at a Kwik Trip in Cambridge won $50,000, the Minnesota Lottery said.

New Minnesota Law Keeps Lottery Winners Private

Finding out *who* won that prize, though, and any other big lottery prizes, is now a little trickier in the North Star State, thanks to a new law that went into effect in September of 2021. According to the Minnesota Lottery, the 2021 law now allows lottery winners of cash prizes greater tham $10,000 to keep their names—and their cities—private, unless they explicitly opt in to publicity.

The names and cities of lottery prize winners above $10,000 in Minnesota are automatically considered private data unless a winner chooses to opt in to publicity.

If you'd like to join that list-- and who wouldn't, right?!?-- the current Powerball jackpot is sitting at $1.4 billion for the Wednesday, September 3, 2025 drawing. That would give you a whopping $634.3 million if you were the sole winner and took the cash payout! But here's the thing: Powerball says the overall odds of winning ANY prize are just 1 in 24.9 (which is pretty good, right?), but the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. It doesn't hurt to dream, though, right?
