This month, the purchase of a slice of cake makes a difference near and far!

Last October, Jules' Bistro in downtown St. Cloud announced a new culinary campaign called C.A.K.E. An acronym for Culinary Acts of Kindness Encouraged, the campaign sees the bistro partnering with and supporting financially local organizations, charities and programs with a special cake creation. Last month, Jules' Bistro revealed a scrumptious, Spring-y Strawberry Lemonade cake. A portion of the proceeds went to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central MN.

With April here, Jule's Bistro has announced its latest partnership and culinary work of art. "This month’s Kindness Cake campaign features tangy lime curd nestled between mildly-sweet mango coconut cake layers, covered in chocolate ganache and artfully decorated with white and milk chocolate brushstrokes, lime buttercream, dark chocolate-dipped mango slices, toasted coconut flakes and lime zest," the café shared on Facebook. "When you purchase a $20 slice of this delightfully-different cake, $13 will be set aside to support Herarts in Action, a non-profit organization that believes art is a tool for social change and works to make those who are othered, marginalized and overlooked feel welcome in traditional visual art spaces."

According to the Her Arts in Action website, "herARTS in Action is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2011, awarded status in 2014, and in 2018 obtained NGO status in Burkina Faso." The nonprofit's mission is to "produce and sell artwork that educates on global topics, creates social change, and then funds sustainability projects in Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone and access to the visual arts in Minnesota."

Sarah Burke is the founder of Her Arts in Action. An artist herself, she took her first trip to Africa in 2011 where she was so inspired by the women and children there that she was moved to collaborate with them to fundraise for projects that will lead to health, education, and sustainable economic status. She returned to the U.S. where she started her own nonprofit and began selling her art to raise funds for access to clean water, sanitation, and education in Burkina Faso as well as education in Sierra Leone and the visual arts in Minnesota.

A slice of April's C.A.K.E. costs $20 and sees $13 go to support Her Arts in Action. Whole cakes can also be purchased for $136 with over $83 going to support the nonprofit.
