Heck, this might not even be the actual 'latest' scam. They pop-up and multiply like tribbles among rabbits. Just trying to keep up really can be maddening.

The latest scam that I'm aware of (as of 7:45 a.m.) involves being threatened will jail time for not showing up for jury duty...and stuff.

Scam of the Day in Minnesota: 'Missed' Jury Duty

Here's what these jerkfaces are doing:

  • they'll call you out of the blue
  • they'll have a police scanner (or the recording of a police scanner) making noise in the background to sound more 'authentic'.
  • they'll claim that you failed to appear for jury duty, and now have an arrest warrant
  • they'll send you a copy of the 'warrant'
  • they'll demand to be paid in cash, and accept less than the initial amount demanded

What to Know to Protect Yourself From This Scan

From the uscourts.gov website: "Most contact between a federal court and a prospective juror will be through the U.S. mail, and any phone or email contact by real court officials will not include requests for any sensitive information."

Arrest warrants are served in person; not by phone, text, or email.

If you get a phone call like this, DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. Hang up and notify the Clerk of Court's office. In Minnesota, it's 612-664-5000.

Things That Are Banned at the Mall of America in Minnesota

One of Minnesota's most popular buildings is home to multiple floors of stores, an amusement park, an aquarium, and a huge list of restaurants. Before you head to the Mall of America in Bloomington though, look through the list of prohibited items that you can not bring, wear or do on your shopping adventure.
