Last weekend I was visiting my parents in Long Prairie when we were rained out at the lake. Instead of all huddling into a camper to beat the storm we decided to go pick up a couple of bottles of wine at Dragon Willow Winery in town.

My fiance and I had never been there, but my parents had last fall and were raving about how much they enjoyed it. This unassuming shed just off highway 71 doesn't look like much, but inside the flavors speak for themselves.

We decided to do their wine tasting which is $8 for eight pours. You get to try a little of everything that they have to offer. I was a little on the fence, I'm pretty picky about the wine that I like (fruity and sweet is my preferred pallet) so the reds on the list had me nervous.

The wine tasting featured eight different wines, and we hit it on the right day because we actually got to try a ninth wine that had just been bottled the day before. The new wine is called "Haskap" and it is made from haskap berries grown near Osakis, Minnesota.

Haskap is also known as "fly honeysuckle" and is considered to be a superfruit and is higher in antioxidants than blueberries. The Haskap wine has flavors of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries as well. When I tried it I liked that it had all those fruity flavors but didn't taste like a crazy sugary fruit cocktail.

If you are looking to try out this new unique wine yourself, Dragon Willow Winery is open Friday - Sunday from noon to 5 pm.
