Looking For A Way To Relax? I Think My New Hobby ‘Rocks’
This year has been.... let's just say...more than stressful. Just like you, I'm super busy with work, my family, my pets, and my music, and sometimes I just need to unplug and do something that is just relaxing.
That being said, I somehow stumbled across a video that appealed to me about Mandala painting and painting mandalas on rocks. Mandala painting has been called "The Art of Relaxation," and for me, it has proven to be something that not only provides relaxation and a way to deal with anxiety, but I also enjoy the joy of a mandala. Just like taking your shoes off and walking in the grass, or having your feet on a hardwood floor, when I'm stressed out and can go grab one of the smooth river rocks and concentrate on the smooth texture, the coolness of the rock, and get lost in the mesmerizing mandala pattern.
TRY IT FOR YOURSELF
All you need really, are some rocks to paint, some acrylic colorful paints, and some simple tools. They actually make 'Dotting Tools," but you don't need them to get started. A simple Q-Tip, a pencil with an eraser, a toothpick, and a lip balm, is really all you need to get started.
I'm still a beginner, but each rock is special, and something you can share with others who enjoy displaying them in their outdoor or indoor gardens, around plants, or simply just set them on a coffee table to pick up and adore when needing to just relax and let the stress of the day just slip away. Sometimes just watching someone else create a Mandala rock is enough for me to release some anxiety. Here's a video for you to see if maybe it's something you'd like to try. You can also see some photos of other mandala rocks I've painted in the last couple of months. Enjoy.
