Lynx To Retire Legendary Former Player’s Jersey Saturday
The Minnesota Lynx will honor one of the franchise's all time great players on Saturday at Target Center.
Maya Moore, who played for the Lynx from 2011-2018 before stepping away from basketball at age 29, will see her #23 jersey raised to the rafters before her former team hosts the Indiana Fever.
Moore joined the Lynx in 2011 after being selected with the top overall pick in that year's draft. During her time with the team she helped Minnesota to WNBA titles in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, was named Finals MVP in 2013 and won the league's Most Valuable Player award in 2014.
The 2011 Rookie of the Year was named to the All-WNBA team in six consecutive seasons from 2013-2018 and was on six Western Conference All Star Teams (she won MVP in two of the games).
Despite being out of the league for six years, Moore is still the team's record holder for single-season points (812 in 2014) and its career leader in three-point field goals (464), steals (392) and blocks (164).
Outside of the WNBA, Moore won Olympic Gold Medals in 2012 and 2016 and a pair of FIBA World Championships in 2010 and 2014.
Moore stepped away from the game to help free Jonathan Irons from prison. He was released in 2020 and the two ended up getting married. In January of 2023 Moore officially announced her retirement from the WNBA.
The Lynx and Fever will tip off at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Minneapolis.
