Minnesota DOT has been studying the 2 lane highways for a few years.  They were trying to determine if it would be a good idea to raise the speed limit from 55 to 60 across Minnesota.  About 70 percent of the 2 lane highways around the state are going to be going from 55 to a speed limit of 60.  The DOT looked at how heavy the traffic was, what condition the shoulders are in, how fast people are generally travelling on those roads already, and also the conditions of the road.  Another factor was if the route was mostly straight or if there were several bends, hills and curves.

I'm guessing people may begin to go about 70 on those roads now.  But beware... they will probably be patrolled a bit more than they had been before simply because of this reason.
