We love surprising teachers that make a difference in the lives of their students by shining the spotlight on them and recognizing their greatness. Making sure they know what they do makes a difference in the lives of others and that it doesn't go unnoticed. They also receive a gift basket full of gift certificates from Harvest Bread Co., Coyote Moon Grille, Concrete Image Salon, Clutch Take and Bake Pizza and a beautiful award from All-Star Trophy and Awards. This week's teacher of the week is Joel Pohland, High School Band Teacher at Pierz Healy High School in Pierz. We surprised him with this honor while he was teaching in his band room this morning.

Here is the letter that was submitted by the students:

Mr. Pohland has been such a great teacher. He is always at school, whether he is helping students in lessons or coaching golf; and he always does it with a smile on his face. He genuinely loves what he does, you can see it on his face when you walk through the door. He loves to have fun in the classroom, as you can see every Friday with his painfully unfunny jokes. From giving great advice to being passionate to doing little things to show his appreciation for every student, Mr. Pohland, is one of a kind and we are all very thankful to have him as a teacher.

Here is the letter that was submitted by the Principal:

Where to begin with Joel - When I think of teacher I really think of a servant with a calling and Joel has truly found his calling and we at Pierz Healy High School are so fortunate. Joel is the true definition of teacher. He has a passion for music and that is evident through all he does and that passion is truly felt by any student that steps foot in his classroom. He has an enviable and contagious energy that is so hard to explain but absolutely amazing. He works tirelessly to support students and their needs! I am so glad students see this character and took the time to nominate such a deserving individual.
