Why Minnesota Ranks Among Best Places In US To Have A Baby
Thanks to low insurance premiums and high-quality health care, Minnesota ranks among the best states in the country for having a baby.
The average conventional baby delivery in the United States is currently over $2,600 with insurance and $15,000 without insurance.
While Massachusetts and North Dakota ranked as the top two states, respectively, Minnesota finished a solid third!
WHAT MAKES MINNESOTA GREAT
WalletHub's study found Minnesota to have the the second-lowest insurance premiums in the nation at approximately $355 per month. At the same time, Minnesota boasts the second-lowest maternal mortality rate in the U.S..
“The best states for having a baby minimize costs while providing top-notch care for both newborns and their mothers," said WalletHub's Chip Lupo. "They also continue to be good environments for parents even long after the birth, with high-quality pediatric care, affordable and accessible child care, and a strong economic environment that makes providing for a child easier.”
PLENTY O' DOCS
Other factors that boosted Minnesota toward the top of the list were its large number of medical professionals, including the 10th-most nurse midwives, 12th-most obstetricians and gynecologists and 14th-most pediatricians per capita.
In addition, Minnesota has a large number of nationally accredited child care centers- the fourth most in the United States- while WalletHub also ranked the state as second-best for raising a family (again finishing behind Massachusetts), thanks largely to its affordability.
