Clear Skies Forecast For Minnesota's Lunar Eclipse Thursday

Minnesotans will have a front-row seat for the upcoming partial lunar eclipse tonight- Thursday, August 27th!

According to Minnesota-based Meteorologists Mike Augustyniak and Joseph Dames (via Facebook), this will be our last chance to see a lunar eclipse in Minnesota until February of next year!

Augustyniak and Dames say the outer shadow should touch down at 8:23 p.m., the partial eclipse will begin at 9:33, peak at 11:12 p.m. and end at 12:51 a.m.. Augustyniak and Dames say that unlike a solar eclipse, no special eyewear is needed to view a lunar eclipse.

Clear your evening plans—a massive partial lunar eclipse is taking over the sky, and we've got front-row seats!
At its peak at 11:12 PM CDT, Earth’s shadow will block out 93% of the moon. The best part? The forecast is calling for almost completely clear skies for the entire eclipse!
Minneapolis Timeline (CDT):
8:23 PM – Outer shadow touches down
9:33 PM – Partial eclipse begins
11:12 PM – PEAK ECLIPSE (93% blocked)
12:51 AM – Partial eclipse ends
How to Watch:
Anyone can watch this, no matter where you live! You don't need special protective glasses—just step outside and look up. Binoculars or a telescope are completely optional if you want a close-up view of Earth's shadow creeping across the craters.

Mark Your Calendar: Don't skip this one—the next lunar eclipse visible in the Twin Cities won't happen until February 20, 2027!

Central Minnesota is expected to have a great view of the lunar eclipse, with Augustyniak and Dames' post showing just 3% expected cloud cover in the area on Thursday night.
