Minnesota Ranked Second Best State For Poverty Support, Trailing Only Massachusetts

Luckily for residents of the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota is among the very best when it comes to taking care of those in need.

MINNESOTA RANKS HIGHLY 

Minnesota was recently ranked the second-best state when it comes to supporting those living in poverty by SmileHub. Using the categories of Education/Transportation Availability, Income/Benefits and Housing/Healthcare/Food, SmileHub found only Massachusetts to be better at supporting its poverty-stricken citizens.

Minnesota finished first in Housing/Healthcare/Food; fourth in Income/Benefits and 11th in Education/Transportation.

SUB CATEGORIES 

The study also shows that Minnesota has the eighth-most charities aimed at reducing poverty, the 14th-best access to public transportation and the 23rd highest number of homes intended for low-income people.

In addition, Minnesota has the third-lowest share of residents living in poverty in the country and the fourth-lowest food insecurity rate.

BEST STATES FOR SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN POVERTY 

Rounding out the top five were Washington, New Jersey and Maryland. The bottom five were Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and Mississippi.
