Discover What Makes Minnesota A Great Place To Retire
There are several important factors to consider when deciding where to spend your retirement. Access to medical care, affordability and quality of life are just a few of the things one needs to take into account when deciding where to wind things down after your career ends.
WalletHub did the math and determined the best states in America for retirees. While Wyoming took the top overall spot, Minnesota still finished strong with a fifth-place showing.
“Retirement is supposed to be relaxing, but it can also be incredibly stressful given that it typically puts people on a fixed income, which may not be enough for them to live comfortably," said WalletHub's Chip Lupo. "As a result, the best states for retirees are those that have low taxes and a low cost of living to help retirees’ budgets stretch as far as possible. Having access to excellent medical care and homemaking services is also crucial, especially for people who don’t plan to retire in close proximity to their families.”
WHAT MAKES MINNESOTA A GREAT PLACE TO RETIRE?
Minnesota's top-five finish is buoyed by its top-overall spot for Health Care, thanks to great medical options like CentraCare, Mayo Clinic and others. Minnesota also finished highly in Quality of Life (#7) while ranking in the bottom half of the 'Affordability' category (#33).
Minnesota also boasts a lot of entertainment options for retirees, with the most theaters per capita. In addition, Minnesota has the fifth-highest life expectancy in the United States (between 78.8-81 years).
