Minnesota Shines As One Of The Safest States In America
The State of Minnesota is among the safest in the country according to a new survey.
Using factors like manslaughters/assaults per capita, fatal occupational injuries, vehicle fatalities and sex offenders per capita, Minnesota finished the WalletHub study as the eighth-safest state.
“The safest states in America protect their residents from harm in a multitude of different ways, from keeping crime rates low and maintaining safe roadways to having strong economies and job markets that prevent people from falling into dangerous financial situations," said WalletHub's Chip Lupo. "They have high levels of occupational safety and disaster preparedness, too. In addition, states are made safer by efforts that individual residents take, such as forming a neighborhood watch or working in firefighting and EMT jobs at high rates.”
The top five safest states in America (in order) were Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Utah. The bottom five (in order from 46-50) were Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
MINNESOTA
Minnesota did particularly well on the road test, with the second-fewest fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles of travel, trailing only Massachusetts.
The Land of 10,000 Lakes also scored high with a low share of uninsured drivers, ranking fifth overall, and when it comes to saving money Minnesota ranked fourth.
In the study's main categories, Minnesota finished second overall in 'road safety,' fifth in 'financial safety,' sixth in workplace safety and 23rd in each of personal/residential safety and emergency preparedness.
