Minnesotans who have purchased a new electric vehicle can get up to $2,500, while those who have purchased a used electric vehicle can get up to $600. In order to qualify for the rebate, a new electric vehicle's manufacturer's suggested retail price cannot exceed $55,000 while a used electric vehicle's purchase price has to be $25,000 or less.

There is also a federal incentive program that can net a rebate of up to $7,500 for purchasing a new electric vehicle.

The state began accepting applications for the rebates in February after the Legislature passed bills aimed at combating rising temperatures, according to Yahoo News. The newly created program has $10.6 million in available funds this year and $5.2 million for 2025.

A Minnesota Public Radio story quotes Diana McKeown of the Clean Energy Resource Team at the Great Plains Institute as saying '(There will be) a competition for getting in there and getting your rebate in right away."

McKeown adds that the $10,000 combined savings with the state and federal programs is 'pretty significant,' adding that the savings make electric vehicles much more affordable for a lot of families.'
