Minnesotans Aren’t Going Anywhere For Thanksgiving
ATTENTION EVERYONE! CAN I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? THANKSGIVING IS BEING CANCELLED THIS YEAR DUE TO THE COVID19 PANDEMIC. GO BACK TO YOU HOMES, THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE HERE.
Of course, no one said that or is saying that -- well, not exactly. The CDC guidelines recommend small family gatherings. But given how Minnesotans are canceling their Thanksgiving festivities, you might think someone shouted that from a giant bullhorn and Minnesota heard it loud and clear.
Minnesota is number one when it comes to canceling their Thanksgiving plans. There are many reasons for this. The rise in COVID cases recently. Our schools going to 100% distance learning. People that had recently gone back to work, are working from home again. Plus, more and more of us know someone who had COVID or currently has it.
This map is interesting because of how much Minnesota stands out.
The website thedaringkitchen.com did that geotagging thing with Twitter and the results speak for themselves.
They started from November 1st and tracked tweets and hashtags about canceling Thanksgiving Day because of rising COVID cases. Hashtags like #cancelthanksgiving, #zoomsgiving, #virtualthanksgiving, and phrases like "cancel Thanksgiving." A lot of tweets were tracked (70,000) tweets were tracked. Here are the top 10 states that are saying no when it comes to Thanksgiving this year:
- Minnesota
- Utah
- Massachusetts
- New Mexico
- Virginia
- Mississippi
- Iowa
- Florida
- Oregon
- Indiana
If you do choose to get together with others outside of your people that in your house all time, be smart about it. Think of others before yourself. It just requires a little bit of sacrifice.
