This time of year we are usually talking about all the fun stuff that will be opening for the season. Pools, splash pads, beaches, and waterparks are all on that list of things Minnesotans look forward to in the warmer months.

A couple of weeks ago the city of Minneapolis made the decision to not open any public pools or beaches in the 2020 season. Following suit is Bunker Beach Waterpark in Coon Rapids. The Anoka County parks department that runs it has made the decision to not open for the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns.

The Anoka County Board of Commissioners voted during its April 14 meeting to close Bunker Beach Water Park for the 2020 season as a public safety measure amid the coronavirus outbreak. Our team will be contacting all customers who purchased season passes to issue full refunds. We appreciate your continued support and wish everyone good health in this challenging time.

I totally get where they are coming from, and respect what they are doing to keep employees and customers safe. That being said, I am sad that it will not be opening. I actually had plans to go there this year with my friends as one of our few "friendship weekends" we do every year. It was going to be the perfect half-way point for us all to meet up and have a day of fun. Oh well, there's always next year right?
