The Bartz Brothers unveiled Slinky the Snail over the New Year!

For the past 10 years, brothers Austin, Trevor and Connor Bartz been building giant snow sculptures in their front lawn, drawing in hundreds of visitors to their otherwise unassuming New Brighton neighborhood.

Previous sculptures have included a giant sea turtle, lobster, octopus, shark and walrus.

Despite the warm start to this year's winter, the Bartz brothers were able to continue their tradition for the 10th year with a giant 23-foot tall sculpture of a snail named Slinky.

Photos posted to their Facebook page Bartz Snow Sculptures show the process of building Slinky, with initial planning beginning November 21, prepping their lawn (including removing shrubs!) November 23, gathering snow December 14, shaping December 21, and putting on the finishing touches December 28.

Along the way, they received some help from Minneapolis Saw Inc. who gave them a great deal on a snowblower and Scenic Grounds Maintenance who brought in four trailer loads of snow.

Beyond just creating impressive snow sculptures, the brothers hope to raise awareness and funds to provide clean water around the world.
