Bunker Beach in Coon Rapids may be closed for the summer 2020 season, but that doesn't mean the outdoor water park is sitting idle.

Because of the season-long closure, the waterpark has been able to move up a project timeline for a major new addition: a wave pool.

We are happy to announce a NEW wave pool 🌊 featuring a lagoon will be constructed for the 2021 season!

This new wave pool will be heated, and include a 3,000-square-foot lagoon. Something else they are adding to the facility is a new family restroom building.

The current wave pool at Bunker Beach is 30 years old and it's time for an upgrade. This new one will reach a depth of five feet, create eight different wave types that get as tall as two feet, and have the capacity for over 1,000 people.

The new lagoon will be about one foot deep, and have seven water features including bubblers, spiral tunnel, fun-brella, splash blaster, water weaver, mega soaker, and a waterfall.

Around mid-April, Bunker Beach made the announcement that they wouldn't be opening in 2020 out of an abundance of caution for guests and staff related to the COVID-19 outbreak. It is unfortunate that the water park won't be open for this summer, but the new wave pool and lagoon give us all something really awesome to look forward to in 2021. Plus with no foot traffic at the water park this construction project will be able to be streamlined and they won't have to worry about randomly shutting down a few days here and there to get started on it. They can just get it done and ready to go for next summer. Silver linings!
