Prince’s Younger Sister Tyka Dies at 64

We always hear so much about Prince, his music, his life, his legacy, etc.  But something a lot of people didn't hear much about was anything about Prince's family.  Other than, of course, his mother and father thanks to the movie Purple Rain.

After Prince's death, his sister Tyka was very up front and vocal about her brother's death.  Tyka was Prince's only full sibling.  He did have several others, but Tyka was the only one who had the same mother and father.  She was not mentioned in the movie, but it was about his life and how his music was affected by his life and what was happening in it.

Tyka was also an accomplished musician.

Born into a family of established artists, Tyka was Prince’s only full sibling and an accomplished jazz musician in her own right. She released four albums between 1988 and 2011. 

Earlier this year, Tyka was supposed to perform at a concert being held to honor Prince and also her legacy.  The concert was held in June, but without her as she had fallen ill.

The announcement was posted on her Facebook page.  Many other artists and people in the industry along with fans shared the post, adding their comments and condolences.

The cause of death has not been shared.  Tyka Nelson was 64 years old.
