I knew you had to remove snow from the obvious areas of your car such as the windows, the headlights and the taillights. I figured it's a good idea to clean the hood as well since snow and ice can blow on to the windshield and impair your vision.

Well, it's not just a good idea, it's the law. And not just the windows, lights and hood, but everywhere. In state of Minnesota you have to clear ALL the snow off your car. You could be liable if snow/ice falls off your car causing damage or an accident.

Minnesota Highway Patrol tweeted this out last year. Check out this ridiculous person. Did they really think this was totally fine?

Also keep in mind that it's also a law that you use headlights when it's snowing, raining, hailing, sleeting or whenever visibility is impaired by weather or insufficient light.
