Seriously? Beans for Breakfast?
I told you yesterday what you should avoid for breakfast to instantly drop some weight now that we're seeing spring here in Minnesota. Well, how about what you SHOULD eat for breakfast!
It should come as no surprise that Pop Tarts and Fruit Loops are never a good idea for any meal, even if you aren't trying to lost some of this long winter weight. Breakfast can be tough to make when you're like me and head out the door within 30 minutes of waking up, so here's some items you can make quickly and even take with you to eat at work.
Eggs
They have more than 20 key nutrients. Two eggs have about 12 grams of protein. That's important because it helps control your insulin levels. When your insulin spikes, your body starts storing calories as fat. Hard boil a bunch and you'll have them for most of the week to take with you.
Greek yogurt
High-protein, low-calories. Make sure it doesn’t have any added sugar though, and mix in some fruit and nuts. Flavored yogurt doesn't have as much protein. It might taste better, but only because there's a ton of sugar in there, so avoid it.
Protein smoothies
They're great as long as you use the right ingredients. Make sure you don't overdo it and end up turning your "healthy" breakfast into a calorie bomb! I've used this website to give me great healthy smoothie ideas.
Here's one not to knock until you try it...
Baked beans
People in England have them for breakfast more than we do. They're good because they give you an almost-perfect mix of carbs and protein. They're quick and easy to heat up and go with eggs believe it or not! You can have them with toast, or even just on their own.
If you're one of those people who just goes without breakfast, because you're just not hungry or don't have time, then you need to start getting something in your body to start your day. One of the biggest negative effects of skipping breakfast is hair loss! I'm not kidding, see for yourself.
