I remember Driver's Training when I was in 10th grade.  The instructor said that when you are making a turn, don't "swing out" to make the turn, it's dangerous and it's not needed in a regular vehicle.  That includes trucks and SUVs.  The only time it's necessary is when you are driving a very large vehicle like a dump truck, semi, or something of that caliber.  I really didn't know what he meant.  Now, after quite some time, I really know what he meant and it's super annoying.

It happened again last evening as we were following a regular car, like a Subaru or something normal.  And the driver did the "swing out" in order to make a left turn into a parking lot... not going around the median, not some other sharp turn, just a regular turn into a parking lot of a business.

Why do people feel the need to do that?  One could argue that they normally drive a giant vehicle and are used to this move.  That might be possible, but not probable considering the amount of people who do it.  Do you think that you are driving something that is WAY bigger than it actually is?  I do admit that there are a couple of times when it is necessary, actually there is probably only one.  IF you are driving a vehicle that is a bit larger without a very tight turning radius and you are going around a median to go in the opposite direction, then it MIGHT be necessary so you don't wind up backing up in order to perform that move.  But this is few and far between.  And this is also not what I'm talking about.

Does this bother anyone else or am I just being easily annoyed?  I notice it quite often, as often as maybe once a day.  It's crazy.  You don't need to do that, and it makes it iffy to actually go around someone when they are making that turn... maybe I should be more patient?  And you are probably supposed to wait too... but still....
