
St. Cloud Optimist Club Shines At Regional Recognition Event
ST. CLOUD (WJON News)—At a recent district meeting, a local organization brought home some hardware.
The St. Cloud Morning Optimist Club was recognized for three significant achievements at the Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Manitoba district meeting.
Past President Denny Smith they were recognized as one of only two "Distinguished Honors Clubs".
For that, you have to do memberships, you have to provide all kinds of opportunities. We have an essay contest, we give scholarships for that, we have an oratorical contest, we have an art contest, we have all kinds of activities where kids can earn scholarships.
The St. Cloud Morning Optimist Club received the "Copper Benefactor Award" for donating $100,000 to the Optimist International Foundation since its inception in 1986.
Past President Don Berger was honored individually as a "Bronze Benefactor" for his individual lifetime contributions to the Optimist International Foundation.
They were chosen as Optimist International's Worldwide "Club of the Year" back in 2022 out of more than 2000 clubs internationally.
Part of the Optimist Club creed is to give every living creature you meet a smile.
The St. Cloud Morning Optimist Club meets Wednesdays at 7:15 a.m. at the Boy Scout Office in Sartell. They have a guest speaker each week.
They have about 80 members in their group.
Their June 18th meeting will be their annual program celebrating achievements in education and honoring people serving kids.
Their goal is to promote optimism in our youth, our communities, and ourselves.

They have donated nearly $3.7 million to youth activities in the area since their inception in 1986. They primarily raised their funds with a charitable gambling license.
