God bless the people who cleaned up afterwards -- they're the real saints.

The St. Paul Saints may have rocked the Sioux Falls Canaries 11-4 Tuesday night, but that's not what people are talking about.

It's the massive food fight that happened during the fourth inning.

Yes, a food fight.

And yes -- it was an intentional food fight.

Tuesday, August 14 marked the 40th anniversary of the cult classic film Animal House, and to commemorate the St. Paul Saints hosted a massive ballpark-wide food fight.

"Bring your friends, family, significant others, and especially your frenemies," the Saints said in a statement, "because this is your chance to partake in a time-honored tradition of a food fight, similar to the one started by John Belushi’s character, John 'Bluto' Blutarsky in the cafeteria scene from Animal House."

Nearly 8,000 fans participated in the melee, receiving free rain ponchos at the gate on their way in and pre-packaged food including mashed potatoes, marshmallows, powdered donuts and popcorn offered at the rear of their seating section.

Cult classic or not, I feel bad for whoever had to clean up that mess afterwards!
