Why Minnesota Is The Place To Beat Stress
A recent study has found that Minnesotans have very little reason to feel stressed compared to residents of other states.
According to the American Psychological Association, Americans' biggest stressors included the future of the country, the economy and their employment. In fact, nearly 70% say they need more emotional support than they have gotten in the last year.
WalletHub set out to determine the most, and least, stressed states in the union using factors like work, money, family and health/safety related stress.
THE MOST STRESSED-OUT STATES
Louisiana finished as the most stressed-out state, ranking first overall in addition to 'earning' the top spot in work related stress. New Mexico ranked third overall and first for family stress, Arkansans are the most stressed about health/safety and Mississippians are the most stressed over money.
“There are plenty of small ways for people to manage stress, from staying active and participating in hobbies to taking vacations from work and getting help from a mental health professional," said WalletHub's Chip Lupo.
"What many people don’t realize, though, is that changing location can also be a big stress reducer. For example, states that have lower crime rates, better health care and better economies tend to have much less stressed residents.”
HOW STRESSED ARE MINNESOTANS?
So, where does that leave the Land of 10,000 Lakes? In a pretty great spot, actually.
Minnesota was ranked as the third-least stressed out state, behind only Utah and South Dakota, with the lowest amount of money-related stress, third-lowest family stress and tenth-lowest health/safety stress.

Minnesotans work the twelfth-fewest hours per week and have the second-most adults getting adequate sleep in the nation. Residents of Minnesota also boast the best credit scores in the country and the fourth-lowest rate of divorce.
The only thing that stresses the average Minnesota resident out? Work related stress, where the state ranks 23rd. That fear may be valid, as Minnesota ranks just 33rd in the country for job security.
